“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Proverbs 10:4 Diligence: the courage to focus on what needs to be done, and to do your best to complete it. Laziness is a common reason for poverty – not the only reason, but a common one. On the other hand, he […]

Devotions for Dads! – Proverbs 10:3
“The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.” Proverbs 10:3 Hungry in body and soul. The righteous soul profits even when their bellies are hungry. God readily gives to the righteous, but the wicked – even though they crave, are not satisfied, because they focus on […]
Devotions for Dads! – Proverbs 10:2
“Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.” Proverbs 10:2 God’s economy works differently. Though the world’s financial systems may seem to benefit from “profit at any cost” God looks at our hearts and wants to change them to be more like Himself, regardless of what profit we make on this […]
Devotions for Dads! – Proverbs 10:1
“The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.” Proverbs 10:1 This verse, that begins the two phrase, one verse wisdom that continues through chapter 22, of the book of Proverbs, plainly states that seeking to make wise choices makes a father proud. […]
GoldRush!
I would highly recommend an event like this if you have the opportunity! If you’ve never done something like this, we gather for GoldRush every year (lately we’ve done it…) at Winding River Resort Campground just outside of Grand Lake Colorado.
You Are The Adult, ACT Like It
The whole reason your children have parents is to help them work through the issues that God allows into their lives and to teach them to do the work themselves. Too often many parents, myself included, take it personally when their children act foolishly… Remember, they are children, foolishness is bound up in their heart. It is normal for a child to start out foolish, your job is to help them through it, not react to it.
“ACTing” in the Midst of Foolishness
When kids speak with all their emotion, they will try to rope you into that emotion. Be careful not to simply fall into the ‘expendable’ emotion that your children are feeling at the moment.
How to Teach Your Son to Be “The Man!”
When teaching your boys, they respond far better to instructions and guidelines, accompanied by consistent modeling, than they do to back-door reprimands because they are not measuring up to the expectation you have of what a man should be. I encourage you to proactively show them how to achieve what you expect, and then guide […]
How I Became “The Man!”
When I think about the time that I learned what it means to be a man, I remember driving down Randall Road, between Cary and Elgin, Illinois, in my Blue 1998 Ford Explorer Wagon listening to a cassette tape series of an audio book and taking notes on a small hand-held note pad with a […]
Teach Your Child to Work
Work… that’s a four letter word! Is that how you see it? Is that how your children see it …because that’s how you see it? …or because they see you work without expecting them to? I have heard this said by men who seem to say it “tongue in cheek”… and often the man saying […]
